San Marco: Open Center
This was a commissioned work and the client chose a Moorish design from the Venice St. Mark's cathedral. The center was a challenged and we tried a number of different ideas. One was a Japanese print of people, but it was just confusing. Ultimately I designed fabric based on photos of marble floors. The outside borders, which could have been oddly patriotic, with its "red, white and blue" major colors, was softened by the orange circles.
