Petit Palais
The buildings from the Paris Expos 1889 and 1900 define Paris. One of my favorites is the Petit Palais. The complex floor of the main hall inspires me with its interlocking shapes and colors. I love the playfulness of the floor of the Petit Palais in Paris. At first glance it might be simple to dismiss this as squares and circles, but look closely. Each item is interrupted by another. There are very few uninterrupted shapes here! So, it is a grand puzzle. In choosing fabric, I intensified the colors a bit. The center "waffle" section was pieced together (it is not a pattern in the fabric). With any intense piecing, I truly enjoy the texture of the finished piece; the sensual touch of it. I used no border here but just extended the pattern to 9 repetitions. I think it stands by itself.
